Reception 1 to Grade 2

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics

Curriculum Overview

At THS, we integrate the interdisciplinary learning and teaching of academic content in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics within the school's Pre-K to Grade 12 curriculum, with an emphasis in developing critical and creative thinking, and problem-solving skills while fostering empathy.

By teaching with an interdisciplinary approach, THS aims to enthuse and empower future generations as effective innovators.

Core components

Active learning

Show, tell and do. At THS, our teachers use a variety of active learning methodologies which include, but are not limited to, Project Based Learning, Experiential Learning, Learning by Design and Inquiry Based Learning. THS students are introduced to concepts in class and these concepts are then taught in the reinforcement loop in a dynamic or experiential way so each learner is able to access the curriculum and learn at her own level while being challenged at the same time.

Active learning engages students in two ways - engaging in learning things and thinking about the way (how, why, what) they are doing them.

Learning by rote is out. We strongly advocate students must read, write, discuss, or be engaged in solving problems. In particular, students must engage in higher-order thinking tasks such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.

Media Tech

Media Tech is offered to students from Grades 3 to 8 and aim to offer a strong platform for exploring and studying information and communication technologies (ICT), new media, and the impact of technology on society. To learn more, please read our blog in News and Views.

Marine science

The earth’s surface is about 70 percent water, which means there is over twice as much water as there is land covering the globe. And yet, much about the oceans and its inhabitants remain mysteries. Little is known about life that sustains in the deepest, coldest and the most hostile depths of our oceans and how oceans impact the environment we live.

Our marine science curriculum spans from Pre-K to Grade 12 and blends Life, Earth and Physical sciences including STEM pedagogical strategies.

The Foundry (Robotics, design thinking, engineering, 3D printing)

The Foundry at THS is a state-of-the-art maker space at The Grove helmed by resident experts Mark Barnett and co-teacher Oliver Chase. The maker space curriculum devotes a minimum of a week every term for each grade to work on specific STEAM projects at The Foundry incorporating the knowledge, skills and concepts learned in the classroom.
