Visual art curriculum
The Visual Art program at THS explores both technical and conceptual artistic processes to develop creative talent, critical thinking habits, collaborative participation and independent explorations. Through a large variety of two- and three dimensional projects, students develop skills and techniques in drawing, painting, mixed media, photography, printmaking, and sculpting - just to name a few. Through all grades we focus on themes from everyday life and the art world, while making personal connections to both through our artistic journey together.
Grade one to Grade four students connect art with social studies and/or science units, in at least one term of study while learning about the elements of art. Grade five to Grade eight, students explore cross curricular themes that build in depth understanding about the world around them while advancing their technical skills.
Visual Art is offered as an elective at High School level with advanced students opting for AP Studio Art: 2D Design to help create a portfolio for future creative endeavours.
