On THS memories, friendships and saying goodbye

Hi, my name is Irene Claire. I’ve been a student at The Harbour School since I was in 3rd grade. I’ve made many friends and got to know really nice teachers since coming to THS. I have so many amazing memories here at THS...where do I start?

My favourite memory at THS was when I went to the Glow in the Dark dance last year (it was an event organised by the Student Council to mark Earth Hour) because it was like a disco party event held at school. It was super fun.   I love Sports Day every year and my G5 camp was pretty special as well.

The highlight for me this year was definitely the Middle School trip excursion: it was the best! In fact, I would go as far as to say that it was actually one of the best weeks I've ever had in my life! I went to Japan to walk the Nakasendo Way and learn about Japanese history and culture with 19 other middle school students and it was such an amazing experience! I really got to know my friends well on this trip and it was such a blast that I will surely never forget.

The school is small but that’s alright because the teachers can focus more on what each student is struggling with, and what he/she needs to improve further on. Compared to other schools in Hong Kong, the amount of homework we usually get daily isn't that bad.

One of the things I like about THS is we do meaningful stuff even as we have fun. For example, on some days, we can dress up to bring awareness to certain issues such as wearing pink for Anti-Bullying day, blue for World Oceans day or to dress up as a Character from a book to encourage reading and so on.

So far, I have achieved many of my academic goals and learned so much for the past four years here.

5th grade was a very special year for me as I had great teachers.  5th grade was probably the most thrilling class as we did pretty cool experiments, exciting activities and games. We also had more free time, less homework and no stress unlike in Middle school.  I couldn’t believe it when we graduated to middle school last year.

Middle school is very different from Primary, since we had different teachers for each subject - such as Science, PBL, Social Studies, Media Tech, Music, Mandarin and Physical Education. We have much more school work to do. While it’s been challenging, I’m capable of managing this and I feel I can be knowledgeable, able to lead, have great teamwork and strong friendships.

I’ve learned many life lessons at THS and one thing I’ve learned is to face new challenges even if it’s tough and to always try my best.  I have learnt how to overcome my fears, like presenting in front of the class. This new found confidence would not have been possible without my friends and teachers at THS. It has made me begin to get out of my comfort zone and become passionate about things I love.

THS is the best school ever!  I will definitely miss everyone and all my friends when I leave the school.  Today is my last day at school and I am moving to Belgium.  I have had a remarkable time in this school and THS will never be forgotten.
