THS students at The Grove brought much cheer and happy faces to the neighbourhood when they celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival or Zhong Qiu Jie, with elderly residents in the Ap Lei Chau estate last Thursday.
Our students distributed more than 300 mooncakes donated by THS families to local residents. Some of our neighbors were even lined up at 7:30 a.m. in anticipation of receiving a traditional cake.
Spearheaded by the school’s PTA and THS community project manager, Mr. Jason Wong, the mooncake drive collected the sweet treats at all three campuses as a delicious way to give back and thank the local community for accepting THS into its community. THS primary school students also made Mid-Autumn Festival cards to accompany the gift bags of mooncakes.
In the afternoon, some THS students walked to the nearby Lei Fook Neighborhood Elderly Centre and performed a Mandarin song for the residents. Students and residents also played games, practiced calligraphy and more mooncakes were shared.
The Harbour School is grateful to be a part of the Ap Lei Chau community and enjoyed celebrating the harvest celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival with its neighbors.
