This year’s Sports Day will be held at Stanley Ho Sports Ground in Pokfulam and promises to be our biggest one yet. For the PE team, THS Sports Day is the most magical day of the school year for us as we get to create an event for the entire THS community to get together and have fun around the theme of sports. We are always incredibly excited by the opportunity to create an amazing day for the whole community in celebration of the importance of physical well-being as well as to showcase THS sports teams and talents.
We planned with inclusion in mind and came up with many creative games and activity stations that will engage students of all ages and abilities. A diverse range of activities are on offer for students from Prep to High School. Participating students this year will get to enjoy anything from ten to sixteen separate events spanning inclusive, fun driven games such as egg and spoon races and balancing challenges to mainstream team games such as football, dodgeball and volleyball.
Additionally, as we will be at Stanley Ho Sports Ground we plan to fully utilize some of the facilities this venue offers us by holding a few of the more traditional track and field events such as long jump, high jump and relay races. For many of our students this will be their first chance to have a try at these class athletic events.
More festival-like than your traditional Sports Day which is about competition and medals, THS Sports Day lets our students explore their own athletic abilities in a fun and non-competitive format where the focus is on participation, teamwork, sportsmanship and most of all, to have fun. All of the activities offered are geared towards helping students develop their sense of balance, hand-eye coordination and body control while promoting physical strength, speed and accuracy. As ever inclusivity is at the heart of what we do here at THS and to that end at sports day ‘it’s not about if you win or lose, it’s how you play the game’. With this firmly in mind, our events are far less about the results and outcomes or winners and losers and far more about participation, attitude and most of all fun.
We thank you for joining us in cheering on your children and perhaps even joining in our full school fun run as we add another chapter to our growing book of success stories with the 18Y19 THS Sports Day.
