The Harbour School 7th Grader Delivers Standout Performance at the 2026 Asia Junior Debate Championships

On 24-25 January 2026, The Harbour School Grade 7 student Hugo Earnshaw-Saran achieved outstanding results at the 2026 Asia Junior Championships - Debate (Winter Edition), an international online debating competition for young debaters across the Asia-Pacific region.

Competing against more than 150 students from countries including Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and India, Hugo earned several major speaker awards. He was named Co-2nd Best Speaker overall, Co-Overall Best Speaker in Northeast Asia out of 91 speakers, Co-Overall Best Speaker in Hong Kong, and 2nd Best Speaker in the 12-and-Under category. Hugo and his team also advanced to the Under-14 Semifinals, demonstrating strong teamwork and consistency throughout the competition.

Hosted online using the Junior World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) format, the Asia Junior Championships – Debate (Winter Edition) is regarded as a premier event for emerging young debaters in the region. Hugo’s performance reflects confidence, critical thinking, and advanced public speaking skills developed through debate beyond the classroom.
