The Foundry

The Foundry is the school's purpose-built makerspace - a learning environment designed to encourage students to build, experiment and prototype inventions as they engage deeply in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Projects are topic-based and wide-ranging following a rigorous, interdisciplinary steam curriculum.

Topics covered in the past include weather, criminal science investigation, industrial revolution, environment, social issues, economics, architectural, and energy.

Activities might include electronics, robotics, coding, 3D printing, Lego-building, laser-cutting, woodworking, textiles, prototyping, digital fabrication and cardboard construction.

Grade 8 Foundry Intensive Week Project

Grade 8, split into two classes with five groups, were tasked with an 'Intensive week' project to design and build an eight-foot square model of a refugee shelter.

Set Design, Build & Paint

In The Foundry, Middle School students designed, built and presented various sets for their drama/plays. During this experience, they learned more about empathy, how it connects to the design process and how they could build onto the community with their creativity.

Grade 4 Foundry Intensive Project

With the Grade 4 studying Maya culture, the Term 2 intensive project had the students craft original Maya-styled masks. The student group developed engineering, woodworking, and creative experience and skill through the process.
