Lower Primary

Junior Grade 1 through Grade 2

The Lower Elementary program aligns with The Harbour School's whole-child approach, aiming to:

  • Develop curiosity and enthusiasm for learning
  • Support social-emotional growth
  • Encourage independence and self awareness
  • Foster community-mindedness and compassion

Progress is based on readiness, not age, ensuring a solid foundation in literacy and numeracy through hands-on learning across all subjects at The Harbour School. This lays the groundwork for continued discovery, self-awarness, critical thinking, and rhetoric - key components of successful learning. Immersive, interactive spaces make the learning experience engaging.

The goals of Lower Elementary are consistent with the whole-school curricular framework to:

  • develop each child's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning
  • support social-emotional growth
  • encourage independence skills
  • develop a strong sense of self
  • foster community mindedness and compassion

Students’ progress is determined with a “readiness bound” rather than “age-bound” approach in learning Literacy and Numeracy, and by the end of Lower Primary students have a solid foundation in these skills.  They will have actively participated in a series of positive, hands-on learning experiences across a range of subjects.  This sets the stage for continued discovery, self-awareness, critical thinking and rhetoric: all integral aspects of a successful learning repertoire.  Immersive spaces have been conceived to make learning engaging and interactive.
