College & Career Counselling

Our College and Career counselling program is guided by the Right Fit Philosophy.

At THS, our focus is on helping each student find the ideal fit for their individual needs. We take a high touch approach which seeks to empower students to make informed choices based on their developing sense of self and personal values.

Our program recognizes that every student is a unique individual that requires the appropriate environment to unlock their full potential. We firmly believe that when a student finds a school that aligns with their individuality, motivation, and values, they have a significantly greater chance of flourishing in the world.

To achieve this, we emphasize three key components in the college search and selection process: purpose, autonomy, and community.

  1. Purpose - The student has a sense of purpose or at least an understanding of interests which he/she wishes to continue exploring.

  2. Autonomy - The student is self-directed.  They have a sense of who they are and see their community as a network of mentors or consultants to realize their goals.

  3. Community - The student has a good sense for the kind of environment that will help facilitate the meaningful pursuit of their purpose.

In practical terms, we take our students through four distinct stages.

  • Grade 10 - Students participate in the Project Wayfinder course that seeks to unearth a sense of purpose in the student.
  • Grade 11 - The 1st half of the year is spent leveraging their understanding of purpose to investigate potential post-graduation pathways that could realize that purpose in the world.
  • The second ½ of grade 11 is spent developing a plan for pursuing the post high school pathways identified as vehicles for purpose.  In most cases, this ends up taking the shape of the traditional college or university search process.
  • Grade 12 - Each individual executes their plan, which in most cases, is the traditional application process required of colleges and universities around the world.

“Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.”
